aBOUT DR. DAMONE PAUL JOHNSON

The Reverend Dr. Damone Paul Johnson is the dynamic Senior Pastor of Metropolitan New Testament Mission Baptist Church in Albany, New York, where his visionary leadership has transformed lives, strengthened families, and expanded the reach of the Gospel since 2003. Under his leadership, the congregation has experienced tremendous spiritual and numerical growth while becoming a beacon of hope throughout the Capital Region. His commitment to excellence led the church through the construction of a beautiful new ministry campus, culminating in a historic celebration in September 2022 as Metropolitan retired its 25-year, multi-million-dollar mortgage an extraordinary 15 years ahead of schedule.

A gifted preacher, teacher, and servant leader, Dr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy with a minor in Music from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by a Master of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York. While a student at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, he was honored with the prestigious Dr. H. Beecher Hicks Jr. Preaching Award, recognizing his exceptional promise and excellence in preaching and pastoral ministry. In 2007, he earned the Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Preaching from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Committed to developing leaders in both the church and the community, Dr. Johnson is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Phi Lambda Chapter, a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity (The Boulé), and serves as the Immediate Past Eastern Regional Chaplain of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is also a sought-after guest lecturer at the University at Albany and formerly served as an adjunct professor at Martin University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the author of A Life Worth Rebuilding, Bonded Love: How God's Love Shines Through Imperfect Relationships, and his third and most recent book, Love Unlimited, released in September 2025.

Above every title and accomplishment, Dr. Johnson is a devoted husband who joyfully shares life and ministry with his wife, Angela Johnson. His unwavering passion is to see lives transformed by the power of God's Word and people empowered to walk confidently in their God-given purpose.

His life verse is Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
